Attorney O.J. Elrington eager for challenge in Alicia Trapp case

By Aaron Humes: Attorney Orson Elrington is claiming a victory of sorts in a case that hasn’t even reached the courtroom but has been one of the top stories of the year – the challenge of Police Constable Alicia Trapp of disciplinary action laid on by her Department following a confrontation in June with Cayo South Representative Julius Espat.

While Espat didn’t pursue charges against her, she was disciplined by the police department for violating its social media policy.

Elrington has been sparring with former legal classmate and Commissioner of Police Chester Williams in public over the merit of the case but he revealed that a top private senior counsel from a major law firm has joined in on the Government side.

Elrington told local media that the Government appears to be placing some importance on the matter of defending the suit, and that contrary to the Commissioner’s belief, it is not a lawsuit they want to lose, but they very well could: “You don’t need to be a great attorney if you have a great case. You just need to be a good attorney if you have a great case, and in this case, I am saying that it is manifestly clear that the constitutional right of Miss Alicia Trapp was breach and continues to be breached and therefore I don’t think that we will have much problem in letting the court declare such.”

A date for hearing has not yet been indicated.
