By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hurricane Ian caused widespread devastation in Florida knocking out power, flooding homes, and catastrophic winds.
Authorities have confirmed 1 death and fear the toll could be high, Fox reports.
A 72-year-old man was found dead in water in a canal behind his home in Deltona.
This morning, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno told “Good Morning America” that fatalities from the storm were “in the hundreds,” but later clarified that he couldn’t immediately confirm the true death toll.
In addition, officials say that they received thousands of 911 calls from people that needed rescue but roadways were impassable and bridges were compromised.
Mayor of Fort Myers, Kevin Anderson said that Hurricane Ian is by far the worst storm he has witnessed since he first came to the area in the 1970s.
