By Benjamin Flowers: A vehicle making a sudden stop on the Philip Goldson Highway is reportedly the cause of the fatal traffic accident in Sandhill Village this week, that claimed the life of three men after their pickup collided head-on with a passenger bus.
The bus driver, 21-year-old Joel Disus told police that he was en route to Corozal when the vehicle in front of him came to a sudden stop. Disus said he swerved into the left lane to avoid colliding with the vehicle but ended up in a head-on crash with a pickup truck.
Two of the occupants in the truck, James Dawson and Crooked Tree Village Chairman Brandon Gillett, died on impact; while the third victim, Eustace Dawson Jr., died while receiving emergency care.
Police are investigating.
In the aftermath of their passing, the Belize Livestock Producers Association, residents of Crooked Tree Village, and Belize Rural North Area Representative Marconi Leal have issued statements of condolences to the families and friends of the men.
