By Breaking Belize News staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has determined that 30-year-old, Anthony Mejia will stand trial in the Supreme Court for almost cutting off the hand of 33-year-old Christopher Hyde.

Mejia’s preliminary inquiry was held in court yesterday, where he was charged with a single count of maim.

The accusation against him is that in 2020, during an altercation with Hyde, Mejia chopped him with a machete almost severing his hand and causing permanent damage which has impaired its use.

After considering the evidence, the Magistrate determined that Mejia has a case to answer to and that he will do so in the January 2023 session of the Supreme Court.

His old bail on the offense was revoked, and he was granted new bail which he was able to meet.
