Battle of the drums returns in November! “No more virtual battles” organizers say

By Benjamin Flowers: After being forced to hold the event digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 17th Annual Battle of the Drums Competition and Show coming in November is returning to its roots.

The organizers have announced that the competition will be held on November 12 at the Punta Gorda Sporting Complex and will feature groups from all over Belize, as well as Honduras and Guatemala.

“This year’s show is going to be bigger and better. No more virtual, the intense face-to-face duel is BACK!” the organizers say.

The event also serves to raise awareness of Garinuagu culture, with as many as 22,500 people, mostly students, being introduced to the music and language worldwide through the event, according to the official website of the event, www.battleofthedrums.bz.
