Almost six months later, police arrest man for La Democracia shooting

By Benjamin Flowers: Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a shooting in La Democracia Village back in April.

Today, officers arrested and charged 20-year-old Jaheed Brakeman for the crimes of use of deadly means of harm, and wounding upon Becky Estrada.

Brakeman was also charged with one count of aggravated assault upon Paul Smith Sr.

Estrada was shot on the night of Saturday, April 16. She was at home with her common-law husband and two children when a hail of gunfire hit her house and she realized she had been shot to the hip.

The incident happened not long after her minor son was arrested for the murder of 19-year-old Tyreak August, who was also a resident of La Democracia.
