By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Conservation groups in Belize and Guatemala are working to protect the Mopan River which crosses from Guatemala into Belize by the Belize-Guatemala border.
According to Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD), the two FCD support groups focusing their attention on the protection of rivers include ‘Todos Por Un Mundo Verde’ (Everyone for a Green World) located in the municipality of Melchor de Mencos in Guatemala and the “FCD Environmental Youth Group” in Cayo.
“On this occasion, FCD enabled to produce materials that will be used to promote the message for the protection of the Mopan River,” said Friends for Conservation and Development – FCD Belize in a social media post
“The FCD Environmental Youth Group has the goal of visiting communities and raising awareness about the conditions of the river and what people can do to protect the valuable resource.”
FCD said the materials were made possible with support from the United States Department of the Interior.
