By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Every October, people around the world show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives an opportunity for the annual campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer and fund research into its causes, treatment, and cure.
Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceno says that with 86 cases of breast cancer in 2020, this cancer type has the highest incidence rate in Belize.
“Breast and cervical cancers disproportionately impact young women in Belize, exacerbating gender inequity in health care and disease prevention.
With that data in mind:
Let’s talk prevention,
Let’s build awareness,
Let’s talk about healthy living lifestyles and
Let’s make self-examination and visits to our doctor or clinic part of our health and well-being routine,” Briceno said.
Briceno encourages everyone to join efforts to combat cancer and prevent its scourge.
Every ribbon makes a difference. Awareness is power.
