Conservationists and FCD partner to protect rivers in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) and conservationists joined efforts to plan and discuss a Blue Gold Campaign to raise awareness and promote action for the protection of the Chiquibul, Mopan, Macal, and Belize Rivers in Belize.

FCD and the Cayo Watershed Conservation Alliance have conducted a session with community leaders from Arenal, Benque Viejo del Carmen, San Jose Succotz, Calla Creek, and Bullet Tree Falls which resulted in a set of actions to be undertaken at the local level.

FCD said that the groups will work together to implement these initiatives to protect the rivers.

In addition, the FCD Environmental Youth Group plans to visit communities and raise awareness about the conditions of the river and what people can do to protect this valuable resource.
