U.S. President: Hurricane Ian could be “worst” hurricane in U.S. history

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Friday, U.S. President Joe Biden said that destruction from Hurricane Ian could be ranked the worst hurricane in U.S. history.

According to Reuters, President Biden has directed that every possible action be taken to save lives.

“We’re just beginning to see the scale of that destruction. It’s likely to rank among the worst … in the nation’s history,” Biden said.

After ravaging Florida on Wednesday with record breaking storm surge catastrophic winds and major flooding, Hurricane Ian barreled toward South Carolina on Friday.

Officials say that 67 people lost their lives due to Hurricane Ian.

As of this morning, almost 900,000 residents in Florida are still without power.

The White House noted that President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will travel Puerto Rico on Monday to survey the damage from Hurricane Fiona then head to Florida on Wednesday, October 5.
