By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Germany’s Ambassador Mrs. Ricarda Redeker visited the Chiquibul National Park accompanied by personnel from the GIZ Selva Maya Programme, said a social media post by the Friends for Conservation and Development – FCD Belize.
“The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the support provided by the GIZ project in safeguarding the Chiquibul National Park located in the Selva Maya,” said FCD Belize.
“At Tapir Camp, FCD staff explained to Ambassador Redeker the key components supported under the project which includes binational link ups, conservation post upgrades and Ranger mobilization.”
FCD Belize explained that the Selva Maya region, which lies between Belize, Guatemala, and southern Mexico, spans over ten million hectares, making it the largest contiguous tropical rainforest in Mesoamerica.
