By Breaking Belize News Staff: The man accused of the brutal chopping murder of 71-year-old Porfiria Ramona Morales has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
Sixty-eight-year-old Miguel Angel Gomez, appeared in court today, answering to a single charge of murder.
He was denied bail pursuant to Section 16 of the Crime Control & Criminal Justice Act and was remanded to prison until November 24, 2022.
Morales was reportedly walking towards Church Street in Benque Viejo Town near her home just before noon on Saturday, October 1, when a man attacked her with a machete.
The elderly woman received a chop wound to the neck and she was pronounced dead at the San Ignacio Community Hospital shortly after.
Gomez was detained by police not long after. He was formally arrested and charged on Sunday, October 2.
