Senior officers of the Belize Police Department begin special training course

Posted: Tuesday, October 4, 2022. 2:51 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, the Belize Police Department launched a special training course for its Formation and Regional Commanders.

The two-week training course, which is being held at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan, is a first-of-its-kind initiative being launched by the department, according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.

“It is done with the view to train or develop our officers to become better at what they do as commanders all with a view to increasing the efficiency of the police department,” Williams said.

He went on to say that the course is modeled off the Junior and Senior Commanders course which is implemented by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, and will include a two-week session for Deputy Force and Regional Commanders, once the first cohort has completed the course.

The Commissioner stressed that, oftentimes, the public has criticized the department for lack of training, and that efforts are being made to address such criticisms and ultimately deliver better quality service by the department for the people of Belize.
