Lt. Col. Roberto Beltran of the BDF appointed as Staff Officer at Regional Security System in Barbados

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) has extended congratulations to Orange Walk native, Lt. Col. Roberto Beltran on his new appointment at the Regional Security System (RSS) in Barbados.

On September 27, 2022, Lt. Col. Beltran departed Belize en route to Barbados for a two-year attachment.

Lt. Col. Beltran’s new appointment at the RSS is expected to be a 2-year minimum appointment, where he will be employed in the role of Staff Officer in the Training Institute of the RSS with his major focus on exercises.

The BDF says that the appointment comes as no surprise as Lt. Col. Beltran was appointed as the Caribbean Task Force Commander in Exercise Trade Winds held in Guyana 2021, and was later appointed as Host Nation lead for Exercise Trade Winds 2022 (The largest Exercise Trade Winds ever held) which was co-hosted by Belize and Mexico in May of 2022.

Lt. Col. Beltran possesses many years of experience in the Intelligence and Operational fields and was also named the top Student for his Jungle Warfare Instructor Course completed in 2006.

“The RSS has shared a healthy working relationship with the Belize Defence Force for many years as numerous serving members have been attached to their Headquarters in different roles over the years,” a statement from the BDF said.

Lt. Col. Beltran has served in the BDF for 22 years.

His last appointment in Belize was as a Battalion Commander from March 2021 to September 2022 where he commanded the Services and Support Battalion headquarters at Price Barracks, Ladyville.
