Man convicted of beating up his sister during an argument

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 57-year-old man from Belize City was fined this week after he was convicted of beating up his sister.

John Bailey appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, charged with a single count of harm.

Bailey pleaded guilty to the charge and explained to the court that an old grievance between them stemming back to childhood manifested in his sister bullying his wife and daughter, as well as threatening to throw a pot of hot fat on him.

He went on to say that she actually advanced him to throw the fat at him but missed and that’s when he hit her. He contended that her police report was false and that he only hit her once, as opposed to kicking her all over her body as she had told the police.

He maintained that he was regretful that the situation escalated to the point that it did. For his guilty plea, Bailey was fined $800 plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by December 16, or he will face six months in prison for default.
