BREAKING: Tropical Storm Julia forms, expected to become hurricane by Saturday

By Aaron Humes: The 9 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Miami, confirms that Tropical Storm Julia has formed off the northern tip of the Guajira Peninsula in Colombia.

Julia has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour and is moving west at 18 miles per hour. This motion with some decrease in forward speed is expected through Sunday.

The forecast track continues to take Julia across the southwestern Caribbean Sea toward San Andres and Providencia Islands by Saturday evening and to the coast of Nicaragua by Sunday morning where it is expected to make landfall. Thereafter it is expected to move west-northwest across Central America including Belize through Monday.

Continue to monitor the progress of this storm with local advisories and begin making plans.
