Police find over $3 million in cash during raid of brewery in Carmelita Village

Posted: Friday, October 7, 2022. 8:59 pm CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A multi-agency raid of a brewery in Orange Walk led to the discovery of over $3 million in cash and led to the detention of nine Chinese nationals.

The raid was conducted at the Caribbean International Brewery Company Limited facility in Carmelita Village. A spokesperson for the company, which was seeking a share in the domestic beer market with its “Mine Beer,” reportedly said that authorities did not have a warrant to search for cash, and that a lawsuit is forthcoming.

The Chinese nationals were arraigned in the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court today for immigration offenses, but attorney Marcel Cardona stressed that the majority of them are in Belize legally and four of them, who were stranded in Belize due to the COVID-19 pandemic, have flights booked to return through Mexico on Friday, October 7th.

Caribbean International Brewery Company began operating in Belize back in 2021, producing Pirate Beer and a soft drink called My cola, as well as other beverages.
