Cayo man shoots burglar in the foot to stop him from attacking

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Cayo man who found a burglar at his home this morning ended up shooting the burglar in the foot to keep him from attacking.

The Valley of Peace resident reported to police that around 6:10 a.m. he heard someone in his garage. Upon making checks he found a dark-skinned man inside his garage holding a power tool valued at $300.

The homeowner said he fired a warning shot, however, the man began to advance toward him. Eventually, the homeowner shot the culprit to the lower right foot to stop his advance.

The culprit was taken to the Western Regional Hospital and was later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment where he remains under police guard until he can be formally arrested and charged.
