Government of Honduras on red alert due to Tropical Storm Julia

By Benjamin Flowers: The Government of Honduras today issued Red Alert warnings, the highest level possible in its disaster alert system, due to weather conditions being brought on by Tropical Storm Julia.

Julia made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane in Nicaragua this morning, causing severe flooding.

Honduras, which is in Julia’s path as the storm continues to move westward. Honduras’s Secretariat of State in the Offices of Risk Management and National Contingencies [Copeco] issued Red Alert warnings to Lempira, Santa Barbara, Copán, Ocotepeque, Intibucá, La Paz, Cortés, Choluteca, Valle and El Paraíso.

Areas not under Red Alert are still under yellow alert as the storm continues to move.

Belize and Guatemala have reported some flooding resulting from Julia’s presence in the region. The National Meteorological Service of Belize expects the country to experience showers relating to Tropical Storm Julia up to Tuesday.
