Posted: Sunday, October 9, 2022. 11:46 am CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: After hitting Nicaragua as a Category 1 Hurricane, the weather system Julia was downgraded to Tropical Storm status.

Julia made landfall just before dawn today, bringing with it powerful winds and life-threatening flash floods as it entered the coastal community of Laguna de Perlas and made its way westward toward the capital of Managua.

Julia is forecast to travel near Guatemala before dissipating near Southern Mexico by Tuesday.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the coastal communities along Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador, as these areas are expected to experience tropical storm conditions between the next 24 and 36 hours.
