PLB postpones Verdes-Altitude match in Belmopan; no PLB game will play this weekend

The Premier League of Belize (PLB) match between National Champions Verdes and National Subchampions Altitude scheduled for Sunday at 3:45 pm at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan has been postponed, said the PLB on Sunday morning.

The PLB said that after consultation the match has been postponed “due to weather and travel conditions”.

With the postponement of the Verdes-Altitude match due to the rains caused by Hurricane Julia, no PLB game will be played this weekend.

“The Premier League of Belize has postponed all the matches scheduled for this weekend as the safety of everyone was the highest concern for the League. As the weather persists, we ask everyone to continue to be vigilant and stay safe,” said the PLB in a statement.

Earlier on Sunday morning the PLB called off the Wagiya-Port Layola match that was to have been played on Sunday afternoon in Dangriga at the Carl Ramos Stadium. A video circulated by the PLB showed a flooded section of the stadium’s pitch.

“It rained almost all night, and it is still raining off and on and doesn’t look like it is about to stop,” said the PLB earlier today in reference to Dangriga, but the statement applies to most of Belize, if not all.

On Saturday, the PLB postponed the Benque Viejo United vs Progresso match to have been played in Benque Viejo del Carmen on Saturday because a section of the pitch at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium was under water. The San Pedro Pirates vs Belmopan Bandits game scheduled for Saturday night in San Pedro was postponed considering the safety of the Bandits who would have had to travel to Ambergris Caye by sea.

“An announcement is forthcoming as to the date when these back matches will be played,” said the PLB.

The Football Federation of Belize also postponed the kick-off of the Travel Beach Soccer Cup in Hopkins and the Under 15 Belize Girls National Team training in Belmopan.
