Tropical storm Julia influencing the weather

Posted: Sunday, October 9, 2022. 4:15 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The National Meteorological Service says Tropical Storm Julia, which continues across Nicaragua, will continue to affect the weather going into the holiday Monday and Tuesday.

This afternoon’s forecast calls for continued cloudy to overcast skies; several showers, thunderstorms and periods of rain, especially over central and southern areas of the country.

Belize is forecasted to receive at least two to three inches of rain countrywide, with more in some areas.

Temperatures remain fairly cool at 84 degrees Fahrenheit across much of the country and 74 degrees in the hills, falling this evening to 75 degrees along the coast, 70 degrees inland and 66 degrees in the hills.

Winds remain northeasterly at 10 to 20 knots and gusty.

A flood warning remains in effect for flood-prone and low-lying areas and a strong thunderstorm watch is in effect for thunderstorms with severe lightning, heavy rainfall and strong damaging winds.

The outlook for Monday is for some showers, isolated thunderstorms and periods of rain on Monday afternoon and night, decreasing Tuesday morning and affecting mainly northern areas.

Our thanks to forecaster Francisca Wellington at the Belize Weather Bureau in Ladyville.
