Two women caught with over 850 grams of marijuana said that it came in a barrel

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Belize City women charged with drug trafficking claimed in court that the drugs were not theirs.

Thirty-year-old Christine Bank and 35-year-old Ashley Berry were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with a single count of possession of controlled drugs with the intent to supply to another.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge and were granted bail in the sum of $3,000 each plus one surety each of the same, which they were able to meet.

During the arraignment, Banks said that police came to her home with a warrant in the name of a man that lives there but was not home at the time. Police reportedly found 858 grams of marijuana inside the house, which Banks said came in a barrel that was delivered to the house. She stressed that she still had the receipt for the barrel because police arrived moments after it was delivered, and queried why police did not arrest the man who delivered it. Berry was present at the house when police found the marijuana and as a result she was also charged.

They are due back in court on December 7.
