Forecasters monitor Tropical Disturbance over the Bay of Campeche

Posted: Tuesday, October 11, 2022. 9:59 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) are closely monitoring a broad area of low pressure over the Bay of Campeche.

This system is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms.

Surface pressures are falling in the region, and radar from Mexico indicates the system is becoming better organized.

The NHC notes that a tropical depression could form within the next day or two while the system moves slowly northwestward over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

Heavy rainfall is expected over portions of southern Mexico during the next couple of days.

This system has a medium (60 percent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours and in the next 5 days.
