By Aaron Humes: Prime Minister John Briceño says today, the International Day of the Girl Child, is a day to “celebrate our girls and advocate for their inclusion in decision-making on issues of national importance and also on all issues that impact their lives and development.”
In a statement accompanied by a photo montage of his interacting with girls, including cuddling a granddaughter, the P.M. stated, “I stand for girls and in support of the work to empower our girls led by my wife Rossana Briceño, Special Envoy for Children and Development of Families…. The day allows us to focus attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights…. Girls are ready for a decade of acceleration forward.”
The theme for the day as chosen by UNICEF is ‘Our Time Is Now — Our Rights, Our Future.’
