By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Benque United-Progresso backmatch will play next Wednesday, October 19, at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium. Like the other three Premier League of Belize matches, the Benque game was postponed last week and though two matches are playing tonight, the Benque United-Progresso encounter cannot play because the Marshalleck’s pitch is still soggy.

On Tuesday, the PLB said it was considering the possibility of playing the match on Thursday, but PLB manager Wilhelm Miguel said on Wednesday that it would not be possible.

“The pitch is extremely soggy and even with the sun the pitch will not be ready for Thursday,” Miguel said.

“It will take longer than just another day for it to properly dry and you don’t want to use it under that condition because it will wreck the field more than help it.”

The Marshalleck, like the majority of the fields in the country, was not designed with proper drainage, said Miguel.

“The fields have no drainage, so it takes a longer time for those fields to actually get dried properly,” said Miguel.

So, the teams have to wait until next week to play the backmatch.
