Equipment donated to Supreme Court to help reduce case backlog

Posted: Wednesday, October 12, 2022. 10:53 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: A half-million dollar donation to the Supreme Court of Belize by the U.S. Embassy in Belize aims to further help reduce the backlog of criminal cases.

According to Charge d’Affaires Leyla Moses-Ones, the case backlog this year is already reduced by 42 percent, due to previous donations and efforts at better case management, tracking of adjournments, and implementation of court-to-prison video link.

This donation is intended to further establish justice for each victim of crime represented in the court system.

Chief Justice Louise Blenman accepted the donations on behalf of the Court and recommitted to the pursuit of swifter and timelier justice for all.
