Tropical Storm Karl producing heavy rains in Mexico; could strengthen into a hurricane soon

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) say that Tropical Storm Karl is producing heavy rains in Mexico and could strengthen into a hurricane by tomorrow.

Karl is located about 170 miles East-Northeast of Tuxpan, Mexico.

On the forecast track, Karl will be approaching the coast of Mexico within the watch area by Thursday night.

Maximum sustained winds are 45 mph with higher gusts.

Karl is expected to produce 3 to 7 inches of rainfall, with local maxima of up to 12 inches of rain across portions of Veracruz and Tabasco states in Mexico through Friday night. 

Flash flooding with mudslides in higher terrain is possible.
