Constable Lorray Arzu continues to fight for life at hospital as Police pursue suspect

By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has asked the country to keep in their prayers Constable Lorray Arzu, shot last night in Dangriga Town and presently hospitalized in critical condition in Belize City.

This morning he told reporters that a person known to police who is believed to be involved is being sought and added that at this point there is nothing to suggest that Constable Arzu was the target.

Arzu and Lionel Rowland were shot at multiple times while getting into a Ford F150 pickup truck around six p.m. after, according to Commissioner Williams, there was an exchange of words between Rowland and the shooter. Apparently, some of the bullets fired at Rowland struck Arzu in the side of the head and she underwent brain surgery.

The Commissioner commended KHMH personnel for their attention to Constable Arzu but suggested that depending on her prognosis, she may be taken to Belize Medical Associates for further treatment.

Police have spoken to Rowland, who is also being treated at Karl Heusner, but await his full recovery in order to question him further.
