By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Today, Belize’s Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca assumed the Chairmanship of the Caribbean Community’s Council for Human and Social Development (Education) and chaired the initial meeting of the Council at CARICOM’s Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

Ministers of Education from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are convening to discuss the strengthening of the region’s education sector, in their first face-to-face meeting since the COVID-19 pandemic.

At their 44^th meeting of the CARICOM Council of Human and Social Development, Ministers of Education are examining regional, and national actions to address the learning gaps created by school closures during the pandemic.

The agenda also includes matters related to quality and equitable education, CARICOM Standards for the Teaching Profession, recommendations for the new Caribbean School Model, and the implementation of the CARICOM Human Resource Development Strategy.
