Verdes, Altitude play to 1-1 draw in Belmopan; Altitude still leaders

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Verdes were unable to beat Altitude in Belmopan and wasted an opportunity to regain the top spot in the Premier League of Belize.

The much-hyped match ended in a 1-1 draw at the FFB Stadium in capital city Belmopan on Wednesday night with Verdes’ recording their fifth draw of the Opening Season. For Altitude, this was their first draw of the competition.

For 75 minutes the match remained locked until league leaders Altitude powered ahead on a goal by Colombian Andrés Orozco, the top goalscorer, in the 76^th minute. He now totals eight.

However, Altitude’s lead was short-lived as Trimayne ‘Pepa’ Harris stepped up for Verdes and tied the match in the 78^th minute.

And that’s all she wrote. 1-1 stalemate.

Altitude remain the leaders, now with 22 points from 10 games, while Verdes totalled 20 maintaining the second spot but only edge the San Pedro Pirates, who also totalled 20 by virtue of the 4-1 over the Belmopan Bandits, on goal difference.

Both Altitude and San Pedro have a game in hand, which they will play next Wednesday, October 19.
