Posted: Saturday, October 15, 2022. 8:47 am CST.

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Hundreds of Venezuelan migrants departed southern Mexico on Friday morning en route to the USA, Reuters report.

The group is trekking to the U.S.-Mexico border where hundreds of others are stranded following a deal to expel Venezuelan migrants crossing into the United States.

The migrants left Tapachula, Mexico with hopes of reaching San Pedro Tapanatepec, Oaxaca where migrants can acquire permits to cross the country.

Reports indicate that the group includes 500 migrants, most of them Venezuelans.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Washington announced the plan to grant humanitarian access to the United States for up to 24,000 Venezuelans who enter the country by air and with a U.S.-based sponsor.

The agreement with Mexico allows for U.S. authorities to expel Venezuelans caught crossing the border back into Mexico.
