Ladyville woman charged for knocking down and killing man on Central American Boulevard

Posted: Saturday, October 15, 2022. 9:49 am CST.

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-seven-year-old Ladyville resident Mirna Arely Rivera is facing several criminal charges for the fatal traffic death of Joseph Bevans Sr.

Rivera appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, where she was informed that only her charge will be read to her but she will not be able to enter a plea as her offenses are indictable. She was then read one count of manslaughter by negligence, one count of causing death by careless conduct, and one count of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.

There was no objection to bail being offered to Rivera and so the Senior Magistrate granted her bail in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety of the same, which she was able to meet.

She is due back in Court on December 28, 2022, where she will receive a date for her preliminary inquiry. If the court determines that she has a case to answer to, the matter will be heard in the Supreme Court.

Allegations against her are that on April 30, 2022, she knocked down and killed Bevans on Central American Boulevard.
