Lord Rhaburn awarded honorary doctorate of arts from the University of Belize

By Aaron Humes: Gerald “Lord” Rhaburn has been honored with an honorary doctorate in arts from the University of Belize.

The honour was conferred by the University’s President Vincent Palacio and its Chairman Anthony Sylvestre during the commencement exercises held in Belize City this morning at the Civic Center.

The veteran musician was recognized for his significant and immeasurable contributions to the development of Belizean culture as its one and only Calypso and Brukdown King.

In September, the National Institute of Culture and History dedicated the area behind Memorial Park as the Lord Rhaburn Plaza and he recently received an MBE as well.

Rhaburn has been performing for nearly a half-century with his band and delivering hit after hit, covering cultural trends and national challenges with trademark vigour and verve.

He joins more than 600 graduates of various disciplines from the National University.
