People’s United Party hosts National Party Council meeting and officially marks 72nd anniversary

By Aaron Humes: As they have done for several years now, the People’s United Party National Party Council meeting closest to the anniversary of its formation on September 29, 1950, doubles as a sort of anniversary party.

Today’s event was held in Belize City. According to Prime Minister and party leader John Briceño, the party renews “…our commitment to nation and people… recognizing our accomplishments and contributors.”

The Party Leader went on to explain that “Our Party was founded on building a nation for our people… just but two years ago, we rescued our nation from the hands of people who wreaked ruin on our economy and dampened the spirit of our people. Now we’re moving on from rescuing to rebuilding based on a development platform #PlanBelize 🇧🇿 that represents an improvement for the lives of all.”

Like the United Democratic Party, the PUP’s National Party Council represents its second-highest-ranking intra-party agency after the National Convention, which was last held in 2019.
