By Aaron Humes: Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, presently attending the INTERPOL General Assembly in India, has lamented the passing of police offcer Lorray Arzu this morning.
Constable Arzu died around 10:30 this morning after several days on life support following a shooting incident on Wednesday evening in Dangriga.
The Commissioner wrote on social media, “While we were hoping for the best, the [Lord] has called her home and who are we to question his will? I spoke to her mother a short while ago and assured her that we will do all we can to find the one responsible for this heinous act and make sure he is brought to justice.”
The Commissioner added, “This is a sad moment for our police family and PC Arzu’s immediate family. I ask that you continue to lift her family up in prayers, that the Lord may grant them the strength and courage to overcome the pain associated with their [loss]. Rest in Perfect peace PC Arzu, gone too soon but not forgotten.”
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow on behalf of the Opposition United Democratic Party has offered his “deepest sympathies to the family and friends of officer Arzu as well as the Belize Police Department. May all of you find comfort in this time of grief.”
A motive for the shooting beyond the argument that precipitated it is not known at this time.
