One of two suspects charged in Scotland Halfmoon chopping

By Aaron Humes: Police have arrested and charged 33-year-old Florentino Ruiz of Antelope Street Extension, Belize City, with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and taking a conveyance without lawful authority.

Ruiz and others are accused of chopping Roberto Arana following an argument in the village of Scotland Halfmoon, Belize District, which sent him to the hospital with two severed fingers and other wounds.

The men fled the area in Arana’s vehicle which police later recovered and several suspects were captured within hours of the incident. Police say the accused have ties to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang in the Krooman Lagoon area.
