By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Belize City Magistrate’s Court has ruled that 27-year-old Shereema Neal has a case to answer to, regarding the 2016 murder of 17-year-old Jasmine Petillo.
Neal’s preliminary inquiry concluded on Friday, where the prosecution presented 10 witness statements and 10-12 pieces of documentary evidence.
Neal’s old bail was revoked and she was granted new bail in the sum of $20,000, which she was able to meet.
Five years after the murder occurred, a critical piece of DNA evidence that was sent to the United States for analysis came back to Belize and enabled police to charge Neal, who was eight months pregnant at the time. Bail was initially denied to her, but she was later granted bail, in light of her pregnancy.
Petillo was lured from her home by a phone call, ambushed, and stabbed 57 times, and then her killer/killers threw her body in a ditch. At that time four people were sought in connection with the murder, but to date, only Neal has been officially charged for it.
