By Aaron Humes: It is unusual for most members of the House of Representatives to miss a meeting, and even rarer for them to announce they will do so publicly.
But addressing residents of her Albert constituency today, area representative Tracey Taegar-Panton said she was “unable” to attend proceedings in Belmopan, which had been postponed from Friday.
“Dear Albert Residents: This is to advise that I am unable to attend today’s Sitting of the House of Representatives Meeting scheduled for 10:00 AM at the National Assembly Building in Belmopan. This meeting was previously scheduled for Friday, October 14th, 2022 and was postponed. As provided for in Standing Order (84), I have written to the Clerk of National Assembly advising him of my inability to attend. I have also advised the Speaker of the House and our UDP Party Leader of same,” Taegar-Panton wrote on social media without giving further detail.
The Opposition’s benches have been thinned by repeated absences from Hugo Patt and Patrick Faber, with neither guaranteed to appear today – in the latter’s case because of the recent allegations made against him – and the perennial absence of Queen’s Square’s Denise Barrow.
Leader of the Opposition Moses “Shyne” Barrow on the other hand has never missed a House meeting to date.
