By Aaron Humes: The University of Belize, Belize’s National University, on Saturday hosted its first in-person post-covid Commencement Ceremony with 1,145 recipients at the Certificate, Diploma, Associate and Bachelor levels as follows: Bachelor’s 502, Associate’s 483, Certificate 49 and Diploma 21.
As we previously reported, UB awarded honorary doctorate degrees to Hon. Said Musa (Doctor of Laws) and Gerald “Lord” Rhaburn (Doctor of Arts) for their immeasurable contributions to our country and people.
William Palma, Oniesha Longsworth, Astrid Iglesias, and Cielito de Los Angeles Machuca were presented with awards as the top student academic achievers. The University also conferred a posthumous Bachelor’s Degree in Public Sector Management on James Christopher Marin, who passed away weeks before his last class, to honor his memory and dedication to his education.
The featured Speaker was Hon. Madam Justice Michelle Arana and UB’s President, Dr. Vincent Palacio gave the welcome graduation address. Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam was also present for the commencement exercises.
The University completes its graduation season with the ceremony for the Punta Gorda Campus on October 23, 2022 at the Toledo Community College (TCC) Auditorium at 10:00 a.m.
