Man sentenced to three years in jail for burglary at Trinity Methodist Primary School

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 34-year-old man from Concepcion Village, Corozal, is behind bars at the Belize Central Prison after being convicted for breaking into Trinity Methodist Primary School in Belize City.

Samuel Moh appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with a single count of burglary.

In court he immediately pleaded guilty to the charge, stressing to the Magistrate that he wanted to go to prison to get help with his alcoholism. Moh told the court that he has tried and failed to address the problem, and believes that going to prison is what he needs to be able to turn his life around.

In considering sentencing, the Magistrate refrained from giving him the minimum of seven years and sentenced him to three years, in light of his situation as well as the fact that he did not waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty.

The burglary occurred on Saturday, October 16, between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Moh stole a Bluetooth speaker valued at $450, and $10 in ash from a Standard 5 classroom. He was caught on camera committing the act and shortly after the school’s principal reported the matter to the police, Moh was found wearing the same clothing that he wore when he committed the crime.
