Wagiya-Port Layola play PLB backmatch on Thursday at Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Wagiya desisted from taking the backmatch against Port Layola to Independence and will now play it at the Carl Ramos Stadium on Thursday at 4:00 pm.

Last week, the PLB announced that the backmatch, originally scheduled for two weekends ago, would be played Thursday night at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence. That would have cost both Wagiya and Port Layola a fortune. In the end, they agreed on a day game at the original venue.

The other option, of playing a night game, didn’t turn out positive when the lights at the Carl Ramos were not approved by the Football Federation of Belize’s Referees Department.

Wagiya, with 14 points, are intent on regaining the playoff spot, which they lost to Progresso (15 points) last weekend by dropping three points to Altitude while Progresso gained three over Port Layola.

The Belize City side are currently in the seventh spot with ten points. Mathematically, they can still make the playoffs should they win their three remaining games and other teams slack off. But while that might be a far-fetched dream, climbing out of the seventh spot is not. A win over Wagiya would help them with that goal.
