By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man was fined in court this week for assaulting his ex-girlfriend with whom he shares a child.
Twenty-three-year-old Eandre Nunez, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, charged with one count of common assault and one count of damage to property.
Nunez pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court for the common assault which he must pay by January 31, 2023 or he will face four months in prison. Nunez already had a previous conviction for damage to property, so for that offense he was fined $2,000 plus $5 cost of court, which he must pay by March 31, or he will face eight months in prison.
The 25-year-old complainant told police that Nunez came to her home to drop off milk for their child and asked to borrow her phone. Nunez reportedly went through her phone while he had it and saw a text from a man that filled him with rage. In his rage he destroyed the complainant’s phone and began choking her.
