Ministry of Health and Wellness says pharmaceuticals and medical supplies are available

By Aaron Humes: Characterizing statements made on a local television station on Monday and a response by the Opposition United Democratic Party as “misrepresentations,” the Ministry of Health and Wellness says its suppliers “are delivering pharmaceuticals and medical supplies and the ministry is distributing them to health facilities countrywide.”

It adds that Cabinet has approved moving up the tender process so that contracts will be signed with tender recipients by the middle of December, with three months’ lead time to source and deliver pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

The UDP had claimed that public health providers were out of critical and basic drugs and that they were shunting off patients to the private sector. But the Ministry says it was not asked for comment and that in future “basic questions are directed to” it in order to ensure proper information is distributed and a “disservice” is not done to the public with misleading and incomplete information being cited.
