Pawn Shop Manager charged for stealing over $11,000 from her job

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A former pawn shop manager is out on bail after being charged with stealing over $6,000 in jewelry and over $5,000 in cash from her place of employment.

Twenty-four-year-old Adrian Mejía was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday answering to seven counts of theft with respect to the cash and items stolen from Ymanie’s Pawn Shop. She stands accused of stealing an assortment of chains, medallions, rings, bracelets, and other jewelry to a total value of $6,810.00.

A number of the items belonged to people who had pawned them, so each of their jewelry constituted a separate charge.

Maheia pleaded not guilty to all seven counts and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each, which she was able to meet. She is due back in court on November 6.

The thefts allegedly occurred between May 6 and August 12.
