Prosecution withdraws murder charge from Shaquille Perrera

By Breaking Belize News Staff: After spending 11 months on remand at the Belize Central Prison on a charge of murder, 27-year-old Shaquille Brian Perrera is a free man.

Perrera appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today accused of the November 2021 murder of 17-year-old Cameron Hernandez in Mahogany Heights.

In court, Perrera was informed that the Director of Public Prosecutions had sent a memorándum to the court, informing that the charge against him was being withdrawn. With that, Perrera was free to leave. No reason was provided for the withdrawal.

On November 18, 2021, Hernandez was heading to the roadside to catch a bus when he was ambushed and shot multiple times. He reportedly lived long enough to tell police who shot him, then died of his injuries while receiving medical treatment. Perrera was arrested and charged shortly after.
