Belize face Guatemala today in XIX Under-21 Central American Men’s Volleyball Championship in Nicaragua

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize face stiff competition today when they meet Guatemala today at 2:00 pm at the AFECAVOL XIX Under-21 Central American Men’s Volleyball Championship being held in Managua, Nicaragua.

After Wednesday evening’s loss to Panama, Belize fell to a 0-2 record while Guatemala share the lead with El Salvador with a 2-0 record after beating Costa Rica in five sets.

Panama was dominant in winning over our team 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) at the Alexis Arguello Polideportivo, while Guatemala prevailed over Costa Rica (3-2) (19-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17,15-13).

Belize lost to Panama on errors, committing 41 to Panama’s 18. Today they will have to improve if they want to take down the Guatemalan side. It’s certainly not going to be an easy encounter, but as in any game against Guatemala, it normally brings the best in our men. However, it does the same to the Guatemalans.

After today, Belize will have three games left; against Costa Rica on Friday at 2:00 pm, Honduras on Saturday at 2:00 pm, and against hosts Nicaragua on Monday at 6:30 pm.

The regional championship is organized under the banner of the Central American Volleyball Federations Association (AFECAVOL).
