Benque Viejo United, Progresso go blank in Premier League of Belize backmatch in Benque Viejo del Carmen

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Benque Viejo United played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen in the Premier League of Belize’s (PLB) Opening Season.

Not the score either club was looking for but their inability to score has not only made qualifying to the PLB more difficult for them but has also opened the doorway for Wagiya to regain the fourth spot when they play Port Layola on Thursday afternoon.

The draw puts Progresso at 16 points. Should Wagiya defeat Port today, they will total 17 points and they will have recaptured the fourth spot they lost to the northern club last weekend.

With two games left, Benque Viejo United now at 12 points can only now total 18 points and that, if they achieve it, is no guarantee of fourth place. However, the point gained is a step toward not finishing lower than the sixth place they now hold but which they would lose should Port Layola down Wagiya in Dangriga later today.

Hopefully, that game won’t be affected by the lack of referees.
