By Benjamin Flowers: This week, officers from the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division received special training in the area of leadership.
Almost 40 officers of different ranks participated in the sessions, facilitated by Dr. Jarrod Sadulski, PhD | Associate Professor, School of Security and Global Studies American Public University System.
Today some forty officers of varying ranks are being trained in leadership by Dr. Jarrod Sadulski, PhD | Associate Professor, School of Security and Global Studies American Public University System, American Military University | American Public University.
Officer Commanding Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Howell Gillett, explained that the training forms a part of a larger, multi-faceted approach to addressing crime in Belize, which includes improving the quality of life for police officers, making training opportunities available for officers, as well as fostering better community relations and the enforcement of laws.
“The training is geared at improving public perception to gain public trust, effective decision making, strategies for conflict resolution with community members, introduction to effective leadership, problem-solving, transformational leadership, servant leadership, leader-member exchange leadership and promoting ethical conduct through ethical leadership,” Gillett said.
Earlier this year, Gillett partnered with education sector stakeholders to broker scholarships for officers in Caye Caulker at San Pedro Junior College.
