Recall him? Shyne Barrow threatened by internal removal attempt

By Aaron Humes: For the second time in as many years, a leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) may face recall by his own membership outside of a National Convention.

In June of 2021, various constituency leaders and parliamentarians triggered a recall vote of then-leader Patrick Faber. That recall ultimately failed to get the two-thirds needed to recall Faber after a video showed a rough domestic confrontation, but it led to the installation of Barrow as Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives for several months, and ultimately as UDP Leader earlier this year.

Now, it appears, his opponents are out on the campaign trail trying to trigger their own recall. According to Channel 7 News, reports say these include Patrick Faber, Tracy Taegar-Panton, and Alberto August, the former two of whom missed Monday’s House of Representatives meeting.

According to Channel 7, reports say they have gathered the number of signatures needed to trigger a recall – about 172.

They reportedly plan to submit the signatures to the party secretariat by Friday, though reports from the Barrow camp say a number of signatories have walked back their assent.
